Hyderabad, Jan 9 : Two editors of a private regional television channel were sent to jail for telecasting an alleged misreport relating to the death of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.The two editors --- TV 5 Executive Editor Brahmananda Reddy and Input Editor Venkata Krishna --- who were picked up from the TV 5 office in Jubilee Hills by the Hyderabad crime investigating department (CID) police last night for the January 7 telecast linking Ambani brothers in the alleged conspiracy in the death of Rajasekhara Reddy on September 2 on the basis of September 3rd report in a Russian Portal leading to large-scale violence and attack on Reliance outlets, were sent to Chenchalguda Central jail here tonight.
The editors were sent to jail as Hyderabad fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Judge Seshubabu denied bail to both the editors of and remanded them to judicial custody till January 22, postponing the hearing of the bail applications till January 11th.
The CID, who kept both the editors at their AC Guards office for more than 24 hours, drove them to Judge residence at Maredpalli, Secunderabad. CID produced them before the Judge on the basis of the case registered in Jubilee Hills police station under sections 153 A (Promoting enmity between classes), 505 (2) (false statement and rumours with an intent to create disharmony) of IPC and section 16 of the Cable Network Regulation Act.
However, after the argument by the defence counsel that the sections charged related to communal violence were not applicable to in the case, the Judge dropped these sections and instead sent them in judicial custody under 503 IPC.
The Judge also directed medical aid to Mr Brahmananda Reddy who was physically challenged needing regular medical assistance.
Meanwhile, the CID also questioned the Executive editor of Sakshi television Ram for their January 7 telecast in connection with the case registered at Punjagutta police station under same sections of IPC as framed against both the editors were charged by the CID.
Police have also registered a case against another Telugu television channel NTV in the Banjara Hills police station under same sections.
