TRS to decide next course of action on Jan 12

Hyderabad, Jan 10: Senior Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leader and former Andhra Pradesh Minister T Harish Rao today said the Joint Action Committee, formed to spearhead the movement for statehood for Telangana, would decide on its next course of action on January 12.''We have given time to the Centre to announce a specific time schedule,'' he told a press conference here.

TRS president K Chandrasekar Rao had not made any compromise moves on the statehood issue for a coveted post as reported in a section of the press, he said, adding the party would complain to the Press Council of India against such ''irresponsible reporting''.

Posts did not not matter for the TRS president, who had submitted his resignation from the Lok Sabha directly to the Speaker, he said, recalling the party had been formed by Mr Chandrasekar Rao only after resigning as MLA, the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly and also as the TDP Secretary.

The TRS would not keep quiet if the Centre decided to prolong the issue on the pretext of consultations, he made it clear.

The TRS president's meetings with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Defence Minister A K Antony were only to hasten the process of statehood for Telangana, he said.

The timing of the hike on bus fares by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation(APSRTC) and the arrest of journalists following alleged ''defamatory news story'' were part of ''diversionary tactics,'' he claimed.
